James McCaffrey, Max Payne’s voice actor, died at the age of 65.

James McCaffrey, best known to video game fans as the voice of Max Payne and other characters, has died. His age was 65.

McCaffrey died on Sunday after a battle with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer, according to a website called TMZ. According to McCaffrey’s representative, the actor died surrounded by friends and family.

McCaffrey’s extensive on-screen credits include appearances on Law & Order, Suits, and Blue Bloods, as well as video games such as Alone in the Dark (2008) and Area 51 (2005). Fans of Remedy knew him best as the voice of Max Payne in all three installments. McCaffrey also played Thomas Zane in Alan Wake, Zachariah Trench in Control, and Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2.
